Painting to me is a process of letting go my emotions. Each stroke signifies a breath- an exhalation of something that I feel. Some works are done with tight squared lines; they represent the confines that I sometimes feel. The sqaures represent the walls in myself and others that I experience every day. The lake series represents a period of calm in a midst of turmoil that surronded me. They are memories of places that I find quiet and calm-they represent nature, a thing I cannot control, something as an individual I need to remind myself of. True to my nature my paintings have two sides of them. One whose emotions can be raw and so confined they can only come out with a painting. The other side flows with calm. It is in this duality that I find myself as a painter.
Biography: Jessica Sprague was born in Orange County in 1978. Raised in Northern California for most of her life Jessica began painting expressiont abstracts in her early 20's. She experimented with acrylics for most of her earlier paintings but soon fell in love with the textures she could create using oils. In 2005 Jessica was influenced heavily by a fellow artist jaline pol. She became fascinated with the textures created by using a palette knife to create her work. In 2007 Jessica began using those same techniques and The Lake Series was born.
